The national debate over airport security is far from over. Monday, Second District Congressman Charles Bass held a news conference at the Manchester airport to
voice his support for the House version of the federal airport security bill. Under the Republican backed House plan, airport screening workers would still be employed by private contractors, but at higher pay, and under stricter federal standards and supervision.

Democratic First Congressional District Candidate Martha Fuller Clark held her own press conference at the airport, to support the Senate version of the bill. That plan backed by Democrats would make security screeners federal employees. Clark says the contractors have already had their chance, and have failed to provide adequate screening. She said the days of entrusting security to the lowest bidder should be over.
